Brother HL-L2340DW A4 Mono Laser Printer – Excellent, easy-to-set-up printer.

Great customer support, unintuitive printer, great difficulty setting up wireless on mac. This printer is not user friendly at all – and not intuitive. I had a great difficulty setting up wireless. I was on the phone to brother’s technical support for 45 minutes to link up my mac wirelessly. I am not a technophobe – and i have no idea how to make this work without tech support – the instructions i received on the phone was quite complex, typing in ip address and manually keying wifi security code into the printer itself. Linking the 2nd laptop – pc this time – was straight forward. Things seemed to work – however, after installing the printer driver on pc, my mac no longer prints. On the phone to customer service again next day – i learned that somehow the ip address had changed overnight. Apparently you are only meant to select either wireless or usb, you can’t have both standing by. I used usb cable to install the 2nd laptop, apparently this caused the ip address to change (disabling my mac wireless printing).

Only had a couple of days but very impressed. Fast and accurate printing, indelible ink and good resolution. The single feed works very well and takes avery sticker templates without an issue. It’s a bit noisey but then so is the s***e on tv and we don’t moan about that.

Easy to set up if you follow the instructions. Easy to set up if you follow the instructions. From out of the box it was printing wireless in about 15 minutes, thats including the time to read the instructionsnot had it long but so far it is flawless for its intended use (small business, home network). Its nice and quick and quietpaper is easy to load and loads from a tray at the front so you need make sure there is space n front of the printer to slide the draw open. The print is very crisp and clear which is excellent for me as i need it to print bar codes and sometimes quite small ones. It is also worth noting that it seems to run sheets of labels from the tray perfectly too. However, time will tell if running sheets of labels will end up being a problem due to build up of adhesive they may leave. But if you’re not running 1000’s of sheets through i cant see it being a problem. Not had it long enough to comment on the toner usage yet.

As expected, just put this one in our third van for printing direct from ipad.

Good, low cost, pretty fast laser. Decent printer for the price – ability to duplex, setup with wps (if you have a wps capable router) and a good capacity paper tray is a bonus. I have wireless setup and works with full functionality for linux (both mint 18 xfce/mate and korora – use brothers website for drivers), win 10 and also android lollipop.

Good basic home laser wireless double sided printer. Not a heavy home printer user, but need one to print out occasional documents especially for holidays, and fed up with inkjet printer getting clogged and dried out when used infrequently,and costing a fortune in ink as it runs its maintenance cycles in the background. So opted for a laser instead which can handle infrequent use. Small footprint,a proper enclosed papertray (many have paper sticking out) and a doddle to install on windows 10( some other reviewers had trouble,, but following software instructions went seamlessly and i am not a techie) after downloading drivers ( used an old usb printer cable as doesn’t come with one and brother does recommend a cable over wifi for initial set up) within minutes had also installed android app for brother and now can print from my pc , my laptop, my tablet and my phone. Utilities seem good and printer output is very configurable , and perfect for my needs. A little slower and noisier than some more expensive printers but perfect for my needs.

  1. Set up for chromebook/google cloud printnice printer for the price, with cheap ink as brother dont use microchips in their replacement toner cartridges to rip you off. I’m using this with chromebook and my phone only; i found set up for this configuration tricky but here’s how. Problem connecting to wifi router was fixed by moving the printer next to the router (then pressing the wps button on the side of the router and then the wifi button on the printer. For android phones you need the brother iprint and scan app. Connection with this wasn’t straightforward either as the printer didn’t immediately appear as on option on the app. Eventually “search on network” >>>select printer. The real pain though was figuring out how to get the printer to work with chromebook. You have to register the printer to make it work with google cloud print. I did this as follows>>you need the printer ip address (print out the printer settings from the lcd menu on the printer, it’s on page 3)type this into chrome browser (dont forget https://). This yields the control panel for the printer to adjust settings like duplex printing etc. In the network tab>>>network>>>protocol>>>>google cloud print (make sure ticked)>>>advanced setting>>>>register>>>>“google” which takes you to google registration page>>>confirmthis then registers the printer with your google account which means you can print from it. See the chrome settings in chrome (3 dots top right of browser)>>settings>>>advanced>>printing>>>google cloud print.

    I read many reviews on wi-fi printers and this takes the biscuit. Hold half a ream of paper, is so well made and easy to install.

    1. Fine for black text but poor at greyscales. Printer is quick to turn on, warm up and print, with automatic duplex printing behaving correctly. It connected over wired and wireless with no issues, and prints black text fine. Once printing is done, it qiuetens down quickly and is fine to be left sitting in sleep mode. Unfortunately grayscale printing is poor with very obvious banding in shaded areas, and anything lighter than pure black text looks a bit vague and ill-defined. I’ve tried every setting in the printer’s web interface and the windows driver with no improvement. This is disappointing as the grayscale printing on the hl-2250dn that it replaced was very good.

    Have had this for a few months now. Simplest setup yet for any printer i’ve owned. Love it and hopefully it’ll hold up better than the previous hp laser i used to use.

    I’m no digital wizard but after a quick trip to youtube i set this up to airprint with no trouble. It sits in my bedroom asleep waiting for me to print,brilliant everything i wanted.

    And it’s great at this price. The printer works as expected, and it’s great at this price. You probably will have a small issue if you are using a mac and using the wireless print function. Sometimes the mac cannot wake up the printer when the printer sleeping. After googled a lot, i found the solution: set the printer address to static, and look for the printer ip address on macos’s printer preference setting. Hope this helps someone else has this problem as well. Last, have to say amazon provide great service. I don’t know this issue is related to mac and when i have this problem on the first one i ordered, i ask amazon for a replacement and they sent an new one immediately.

      1. Easy to use, no fuss printer. Not great for images, but that’s not what it’s designed for. Was a total bargain for £60, not sure if i’d recommend it at full price though.

Nice to enjoy wireless printingonly slight complaint, print could be a tad darker, but that may be partly the fault of the paper i’m using. Alternative toner supplies are availble, so low running cost. I think i would have to pay a fair wack more to get much improvement on it.
