I was looking for good quality output, automatic double sided (duplex) printing, reasonable initial price, low consumable costs, network printing and compatibility with windows xp, 7 and 8. Printer speed was not a priority as it’s for low volume use at home. After a month it’s so far so good. The printer instructions are good and it was easy to install. My printer is connected by ethernet cable to my router. The drivers were then installed on 3 laptops and 2 pcs, each of which has a wireless link to the router. Installation was quick and easy on all machines, it works well with windows xp, 7 and 8. Other configurations are possible, including fully wireless network and printing directly from smart phones/tablets, but i’ve not used that functionality. The print quality is good and the duplex facility seems to work well, no jams so far even using some relatively low quality 70g paper. I can’t comment on toner running costs as the low print volume to date means i’m still using the original toner. The printer is left permanently on as in ‘deep sleep’ standby mode power consumption is only 0. This avoids the need to switch it on each time it’s required, which is very convenient. The printer is quite big and heavy, it’s not the sort of thing you can just pick up and move around even if it was connected to the router with a wireless link. Mine’s located on a sturdy 55x55cm table bought specifically for the printer. When it’s in operation it’s quite noisy, but it can be set to quickly revert to silent ‘deep sleep’ mode. The only problem i’ve had is not being able to find a reasonable cover for it while it’s not in use as my home is quite dusty.
A bit of trouble setting it up using wifi, but it does what it says, clear print, great that we now have duplex, appears to be a solid piece of equipment.
This replaced an old b/w laser printer, and the difference is amazing. Set-up was easy, and the printer works off the home wifi, allowing placement anywhere in the house, and print out from a laptop anywhere – no net work wiresthe print quality is good, though we have not printed a lot of hd photographs, and have nothing to compare with. The double sided print is great and there are many choices of multiple page and booklet lay-out. Originally i had hoped to reuse a lot of ‘good on one side’ paper, and it is possible, though i have found that you have to be prepared to feed them one at a time into the ‘manual’ slot. Shortly before the expiry of the one-year warranty the printer developed a a problem with the attenuator, i think they said, but brother sent out an engineer, who fixed it at no cost, even though the warranty had expired by then. I was worried for a moment, because i was using non-brother toners, but that did matter in this case.

- It was incredibly easy to set up on both Windows 7 and OSX
- Good Economic Laser Printer With Surprisingly Good Colour Print Capability
Excellent, but wifi a bit tricksy. Works well and easily, and produces good quality. If you use proper laser glossy photo paper, it can even produce results which aren’t far off a good inkjet printer – and if you’re an occasional user it won’t clog up and waste loads of ink every time you come back to it. The only issue i’ve found is that i don’t keep it plugged in, and every time i’ve come to use it i’ve had a little trouble getting the pc to recognise it is online. The solution to this has turned out to be simple though – the printer needs to be on and connected to the network before the pc. So setting up the printer then restarting the pc works every time. Of course, if you just leave the printer on and connected all the time, this isn’t a problem for you.
I don’t often write product reviews. However after reading lots of reviews and looking at lots and lots of printers, i finally decided to go with this brother hl3150 printer. I needed it for my home office, as well as for my family to be able to print from. Having gone through quite a few inkjet printers over the years, decided a laser printer would be better. Well after only about 5minutes of unpacking and plugging the printer in, i managed (without instructions) to connect to my home wifi and start printing from both our macbooks as well as our windows laptops. It simple and just works, could ask for anything more.

Excellent laser colour printer at a sensible price. . After researching colour laser printers for home use this brother printer seemed to be the best value and was 5* rated by most reviewers. Setting up was easy; i downloaded the driver software from the brother website instead of using the cd supplied to ensure i had the latest version. Previous reviewers had criticised brother for supplying a non-uk plug lead and only a 1-year warranty (rest of eu countries had 2 years) but both of these (uk lead and 2 year warranty) were now standard. The only minor issue was that you need a usb 2 lead to set up the printer initially, even if you then use it wirelessly thereafter, but that can be ‘borrowed’ from another usb device in that case. Printer is heavy and very well constructed so beware if you’ve unpacking it alone and it needs something solid to stand on. Lots of strips of sticky tape and plastic strips to be removed as part of the unpacking. The printer even does duplex (2-sided) printing automatically, which is amazing given its under £200. Cartridges are expensive and a set of 4 genuine brother cartridges actually costs more than the printer, but their cost should compare favourably with inkjet cartridges if you do a lot of colour printing. I bought mine at an attracytive price and carriage free from printerbase ltd, ashton-under-lyne and it was delivered by courier two days later.
Bought this to replace a brother hl5040 which i have had for 10+ years. I needed a printer that did colour and duplex, this does bothsetup was very easy. I have it connected on both usb and ethernet and i am very happy with the print speed and quality.
