A fine home/small office printer. . Comes in a surprisingly large box, and weighs more than i expected – at least when compared to my old, now tiny looking samsung m2022. Once out the box it looks the part, in a monolithic sort of way. It’s not all been plain sailing though. First there was no uk power cable in the box (i’m assuming i had a very early model), no usb cable (not unusual, but a little disappointing), and the driver cd refused to install on my imac – making a trip to canon support website necessary. Not the end of the world, but not a great first impression. With everything installed (two parts – drivers and toolbox for the scanner), things improved. Print speeds are quick, just a couple of seconds from clicking print to it producing the sheet. Print quality is good, with even very small text being readable and vector graphics are sharp. Photo’s are decent enough for a b&w printer, but large flat areas of mid-tones can exhibit some slight banding.

Lovely to be able to print wirelessly. 4/5 because the lid on top of machine could be more robust. Instructions for set up relatively straight forward as were the instructions for scanning. Obviously need a good router signal [router had to be updatedcopying function is easy. Prints reports quickly [home use not an office]. ]
- Good quality for it.s price
- Great printer, hard to use scanner,
- Good multifunction printer, copier, scanner
Better functionality and longer cartridge life for a marginally higher price than other camparible multifunctional mono lazer printers. Securely packaged and an average ease of set up.

Width and depth wise it is smaller than my mfd inkjet but is about 2 and a bit times as tall, however as it’s the base surface area that is important it is great and will not take up a lot of room on a desk or filing cabinet. It was a little tricky and annoying to set up the wireless network connection via the front panel as it is not a touchscreen and involved a lot of fiddling about with multiple buttons to enter information. Overall the setup wasn’t very intuitive or easy and could do with refinement by canon. The canon made toner cartridges are expensive, however there are a much cheaper generic makes available. Printing wise, from the moment you hit print in word to the printer starting to push out the page takes only a second or two, even when printing drawings or photos. Quality wise text is perfect, sharp and clear, photos are obviously half-tone and are not really what a laser printer like this is designed for. However, as long as you understand the limits then photos are what you’d expect and as good as you can get at this resolution. When it comes to scanning and copying, the scanner is only 600 x 600 optically so is very low quality when compared to even my mfd inkjet’s built-in one (4800 x 4800 optical).
Time to first page print is fast and scanner good.
