Does exactly what it says, top grade, professional prints.
Big, very heavy, but produces excellent prints and has great network connectivity. Pros:* excellent photo printing quality, especially on the photo paper pro platinum (a sample pack is included)* multiple black inks for black and white photograph printing* networkable through ethernet and wireless* cloud printing functionality, and apps for phone/tabletcons:* requires 10 ink tanks which contain relatively small ink levels* black and white prints can have a very slight colour cast when not using canon paper* cd printing requires installing the whole my image garden appthe pro-10s is an update to the pro-10, and sits in the middle of canon’s professional printer range. I believe the update is mainly around the cloud connectivity, otherwise it’s not much different from the previous version. It basically means that you can print directly from online services such as smugmug using the pixma cloud link. I don’t use such services so wasn’t able to test this. Personally, i’ve been using the pixma pro9000 mkii for the last few years and have been very happy with the quality of prints i got from it, but my biggest frustration was the lack of network access to it. Printing from different devices meant swapping of usb leads every time, and it always seemed that someone else wanted to print something at the same time i did. The pro-10s solves this issue with its range of network options, meaning there is no need to swap cables any more. The first thing to note about a3 printers if you’ve not had one before is that they are big. That might seem obvious, since they need to feed a3+ paper, but the sheer size can be underestimated if you’ve not considered where to put it.
This printer is definitely for the semi-pro like me who sells products to other people, this is a behemoth of a printer (seriously it weighs 24kg and takes up a desk) but the quality of the output is simply stunning . It takes a while to warm up (10 inks to charge) and is also surprisingly slow to print but i have been printing some 10mb jpg’s on it to kodak paper and the output is just off the scale in terms of clarity. Therefore if you need a printer that will do professional quality output then this is the one, the 10 ink charge also means you get better value on inks.
- amazing quality for art work
- Have achieved good results printing my photo’s
- Literally Stunning Output !
Expect quality from canon and this home photo professional printer is right on the mark. Be prepared for a big box and an equally big heavy printer that needs some serious space to house it but that is to be expected for an a3 printer pushing over £500. From bitter experience from epson and now canon, wi-fi set up and then wi-fi connectivity stinks. Not sure what it is but they never seem to work and you’ll always go usb / ethernet instead. Still transferring some big files is more reliable and usually quicker via the cable routes. This reviewer would never buy or trust a wi-fi enabled printer again so if this your ultimate aim maybe change your buy or be prepared to sit nearby the router for ethernet or have it as part of close home studio / office. Print quality is stunning and easily good enough to produce frame worthy images. Blacks are deep and unshaded and colours vibrant and clean. The paper feed is also excellent and no jams or double feeds so far – such was the bane of epson printers in the past.
Ok after what seems like a lifetime of setup i have finally managed to get this beast to connect to my wireless bt router. The instructions to get it to connect where buried in the labyrinth of their website. Finally after trying the wpa option several times in my office i decided to go for the usb cable wifi setup option which as i say was buried in the information. That all said, wow what an amazing printer. Awesome vivid colours like i’ve never seen before on a home printed photo. Which means a total of £110 to replace all 10, however because the inks are so spread chances are you will only have to replace some of them less frequently. There is a great deal on amazon for all cartridges for less that £50the printing is scarily quiet almost morgue like. Incidentally to setup wifi with usb:1) remove all packing, install print head (carefully), install ink cartridges making sure you remove the orange tabs2) connect usb cable3) insert cd or run software from website4) choose connect the printer via wifi5) other options6) use usb to connect printer to wifi (make sure laptop is connected to wifi before attempting this)all done.
