HP LaserJet Pro M12w Laser Printer – Printer fine, but reach a new low in their attempt at working wifi connectivity drivers.

Does what it should no different from its the hp. Does what it should no different from its the hp laserjet p1102w other than the toner cartridges are more expensive.

Printer fine, but hp reach a new low in their attempt at working wifi connectivity drivers. . I work in it and once upon a time hp were always top-notch in their support – they were the people to use. Now – they live at the bottom of the scale. To save money on displays and buttons, hp decided to use a software only wireless connection method that simply does not work. It fails to install a driver for the wifi unit inside the printer – what ever you do it won’t be able to find or connect. I have tried on windows 10, 8, 7, even xp and not one install worked. To add insult to injury their support website is full of pages and pages of absolutely nothing, constantly telling me to reboot everything and try again – don’t try searching for info – there isn’t any and their won’t be any – there is a way to connect without any problem at all and i found this out by accident – and you need a spare mac. The trick is to install via usb on your mac, and once installed look in the driver for a button ‘show printer webpage’. This will connect to the setup page of the printer where everything you need to successfully connect to your printer is there. I can’t find a way to connect to this setup with a pc, but the mac drivers have this option. Airprint isn’t an option – their hp web services is what you are meant to use instead but they actually save a copy of everything you print – hidden in lawyer-speak within the 50 odd pages. If you want this printer to work with your iphone/tablet etc don’t bother, it’s not an option and never will be. It should be illegal to make a consumer item like this which does not work the way it should do – i wasted a lot of time trying everything to get this to print wirelessly via the setup driver but someone at hp forgot to test it. It’s a shame as the printer itself is excellent.

Clean lines and easy to set and use. . It replaces an old hp1018 laser printer and is default black and white printer on a multi-user desktop platform running on windows 10 pro. Unfortunately requires different size cartridge.

  • Nice printer but not if you use Apple devices
  • Excellent for the money
  • Clean lines and easy to set and use.

Excellent hp replacement for my hp printer. A replacement for my hp 1020 which lasted for about 10 years and printed thousands of pages. So the m12w looked to be the nearest hp printer available in 2017. So far it’s been faultless – just a slight pity that there’s no ‘on/off” mains switch, which means i must remember that after switchin on at the wall socket i must press the button on the front of the printerthe toner cartridge supplied is not full, so look on amazon for the best deals on cartridges as soon as you get the printer.

Set up was ok, but did take a bit of work (had issues finding it on the network). Some people might have problems with the setup. Once you have got it setup it is always there, no lost connections at all (so far). Very good speed and very high quality of print.

    1. Great laser printer for the price. . Bought this when my inkjet died after two years use. Whilst unpacking it was a bit fiddly, the rest was then dead easy. Followed instructions and it found the wifi link straight away. Even after a few days “rest” when i start to print it immediately kicks back into life and prints the first page quickly. Fairly quiet in use the print quality is very good for the price point of this little laser. Great for letters and menus etc.

Nice printer but not if you use apple devices. – lovely little printer, easy to set up and prints really quickly, nice quality too. Negatives – can’t print from apple devices although it does say it’s mobile and tablet compatible, none of our apple devices could see it on the network. Also will not print avery labels correctly, every one is misaligned and despite spending hours changing format settings and ensuring we have the latest drivers loaded etc nothing works. If you only print from windows pcs and never need to print labels it works beautifully over wifi.
