Kyocera FS-C51500dn Colour Laser Printer Ref FS-C5150DN – Good results, but slow

Mine is very slow – frequently pauses saying ‘adding toner’. To print 100 1-sided colour sheets has just taken 30 minutes. And the toner cartridges don’t last very long. But no-one else seems to have complained about that here, so maybe this one’s a dud. However, the printed results are good. It doesn’t use much power on standby, so we leave it switched on.

Great printing but a little slow. I’ve been using this as a home office printer for about 3 months and it’s been good. Print quality is high with only minor page curling when using good quality paper. (90-100gsm) it’s fantastic for uni reports and essays. The web interface is useful and has many good features like job tracking, emailing on low toner etc. Toner cartridges are good for 2800 prints which is a big bonus. Although the cartridges provided with the printer are starter ones so i only got about 800 prints before needing to replace them. There are a couple of little drawbacks. It’s physically huge and very heavy so you’ll need a solid, out of the way place to put it. First print and colour duplexing is a little slow but not enough to be annoying.

The fs-c5150dn is an excellent printer overall, let down by only two things. First, it’s start-up time is quite long, mine takes about 2 minutes to be ready to print. If, like me, you switch your printer off between (infrequent) prints, then this can be annoying. Second, it’s huge, particularly depth. Check the dimension before you buy. Apart from that, the print quality and speed is superb, and kyocera’s running cost are pretty much the best in the industry.

  • Great Printing But A Little Slow
  • Excellent printer
  • A real workhorse

Although a bit fiddly to get installed it was well worth the effort. I was expecting good things from kyocera and haven’t been disappointed. The print quality is exceptional, the duplex works a dream and the whole thing is good to go right out of the box.
