OKI 1327701 C511DN A4 Colour Laser Printer : Very noisy during warm up

Little larger than expected and rather noisy in operation print quality excellent.

If it is as reliable as its build quality implies, it will prove to be exceptional value. . First impressions of this printer are entirely favourable. It comes in a stout box: careful, though because it is heavy and the ‘handle holes’ aren’t really strong enough to take the weight. So carrying it is really a two-person operation, holding from underneath. On opening, the printer is presented in a strong plastic bag with ‘ears’: designed for lifting it from the box. Then unwrapping it takes a few minutes. There’s a four page illustrated guide for preparing the printer for use. It’s not wholly clear, but the tasks to be performed are pretty obvious, so no matter. There are easily-seen protective strips to secure pretty well every part that might need replacing sometime.

It works excellently once set up. However the set-up for connection to a router is very flawed as one of the instruction pages appears not to be prent. On usb it works ok with windows 7 – i hope it is as good with the apple os.

I already own a monochrome oki b401dn laser printer and decided to add this c511dn colour laser printer to my collection. The printer arrived direct from the retailer in a box that was strong enough to contain it, but not strong enough for the courier to try and pick up by the handles, during which attempt he managed to rip the box on both sides. However, the printer itself was unharmed, and although it shows a picture depicting two people should carry it i was left to my own devices to struggle up our stairs to our spare bedroom/computer room with it single-handedly. The courier had scarpered, not wanting to know, and my wife is disabled so the only person left to help me with it was. Yes, it was bloody heavy, but i found it easier to remove the box from around the printer and sealed polythene bag it was contained within and to lift it up the stairs using the ‘rabbit ears’ handles in the top corners of the polythene, which i found remarkably strong and suited to this purpose. Once i’d got the printer onto the desktop and removed from the polythene, i found that linking it to my windows 7 computer was as easy as the other oki printer i’ve got, although i did have to download the latest driver from the oki website. Unlike the monochrome printer, though, which is reasonably quiet on start up, this colour laser printer sounds like an old london routemaster bus starting up from cold on a chilly winter morning at bromley garage.
