Ricoh SP 213w Wireless A4 Mono Laser Printer : Not crazy about it but for the money I shouldnt really complain.

Excellent clear printing fantastic price.

Good point: fast delivery good print quality quick at. Good point:fast deliverygood print qualityquick at printingfits perfectly under my coffee tablebad points:does not have a uk power cabledoes not come with the correct usb cablepoor set up instructionscumbersome and less then straightforward set up process, especially if setting it up with wirelessoverall a nice little printer, but lack of correct cables and cumbersome set up process makes this printer a bad choice for less computer literate, that is why it looses 2 stars out of five.

I do not print a lot and use this mainly. I do not print a lot and use this mainly for flight confirmations, e tickets, boarding passes etc and find it’s just what’s needed. The printing is quick and the text is clear. Here are the specifications for the Ricoh SP 213w Wireless A4 Mono Laser Printer:

Great for the price, but impossible to use wifi if your router doesn’t have wps. Made the mistake of buying this over the sw213 non-wifi version which is cheaper than this, thinking i could set it up weirelessly and put it in another room to my computer. The printer has no settings or menu to configure wifi configuration, only a wps button, yet i have an expensive router with tomato firmware installed so no wps. There is no way to set this up with wifi without wps. There are settings in the printer properties on windows that allow you to set ip and gateway info, but not ssid or passkey, so it has no way to get onto the network to use these ip settings. Must be settings from an ethernet version of the printer. Effectively this is usb only for people with no wps router, so you might as well buy the cheaper version.

Printer feels weak but it works as expected. Wifi works nice and you can use your phone to print out document over wifi.

Reviews from purchasers :

  • Great printer, not very plug and play!
  • Nice reliable mono printer
  • Not for Mac users perhaps?

Just right for the purpose. . This is really a 4+ star machine. It works, is fast enough, meets my needs. The only knock on it was getting it connected to my wifi and laptops. One of my laptops has a cd drive and the drivers for the printer on the included cd loaded perfectly and the laptop connected to the printer just right. My other laptop doesn’t have a cd drive and i had to copy the contents of the cd to a usb drive and then ‘mess’ with it a bit to get it to work right. It may have been the idiosyncrasies of the laptop and no fault of the printer. Or maybe i missed the part in the instructions that included a link to the drivers to be downloaded. In any case, the machine is just right for its intended purpose and i recommend it as a good purchase.

Fantastic product, no dust problems, as paper enclosed in tray.

  1. Great printer, not very plug and play. The printer is great and does the job well, fast and very clear print. The driver on the other hand is a real pain to install and set up. Firstly the driver comes on a cd-rom – that was useless to me as neither my desktop or laptop computer have optical drives. Instead i downloaded the driver from the ricoh website and was surprised at how fiddly it was to install. You have to set the printer up on a virtual usb drive (the instructions from ricoh suggest using some kind of tcp/ip thing, but you don’t need to do that) then manually locate the drivers you downloaded (at least this was the case for windows 10). Completely not plug and play – in fact windows does nothing when you connect via usb, it doesn’t even attempt to install the drivers and if you ask windows to search for them it won’t find any. If you make it past this step, you have to download another tool called the ‘smart organising monitoring tool’ if you want to set up wireless. In that tool, you go the printer settings (the password is admin by the way, i had to dig around the manual to find that) – then you can type in your router ssid and password. It’s easier if you have a wps button on your router but that’s no longer considered secure and many modern routers no longer have the wps button.

  2. Good printer for the price?. Very good printer easy to setup even on my apple mac computer the tray where the a4 paper goes is a bit tricky though as theres 2 clips right at the back that extend the tray size impressed so far so good but how long will it last??.

    1. Nice printer, delivered very promptly. Nice printer, delivered very promptly, my only complaint is that setting up wireless is a nightmare (impossible) and in the end i gave up and just used usb; if had known how difficult this was i would have bought the basic non-wireless sp211 at £26.

Good when it works, have to turn it on and off 4 times before it works.

      1. The blue leds on it are super bright and make it unsuitable to be left on. Wireless setup is a bit of a faf to say the least, but once done it works well. The blue leds on it are super bright and make it unsuitable to be left on in a bedroom, they are like floodlights. Those 2 issues cost it a star, but print quality ans reliability are winners.
